Aquaria
The way through the aquaria invites to a journey from the quay wall of Stralsund’s harbour, crossing the North Sea on the way up to the North Polar Sea. The visitor gains an impression of different marine habitats from the "Bodden" (shallow bay) as well as the open Atlantic. Behind the scenes of the aquaria a complex technology cares for species-appropriate animal housing: mechanical and biological water treatment, protein skimmers, gigantic filter systems and PVC-free tube material. All together guarantees a constant high water quality.
The biggest basin with a holding capacity of 2.6 million liter of water is the "Open Atlantic" tank in the North Sea round tour. In this basin the water is more than nine meters deep. The bended panoramic panel has a weight of 22 tons and has a thickness of 30 centimeters!
Other giant basins of the round tours have a capacity up to 200.000 liter and are between two and four meters deep. Additionally, there exist smaller tanks with hundreds of liters in capacity.
