North Sea - North Atlantic aquaria
On the way from the docks of Stralsund up to the North Atlantic the visitor arrives at the Wadden Sea.
In two large tanks the characteristics of low tide and high tide are presented every 10 minutes in fast motion. Parts of the water are pumped back and forth permanently between these two tanks. Additive powerful pumps create a typical tide flow.
The underwater world around the German offshore - island "Helgoland" can be explored without getting wet at the tunnel aquarium. Between the characteristically red cliffs the visitor can marvel at pollacks, dogfish and wrasses over their heads.
The surge tank points out the power of the seas. Every minute a big wave breaks through the basin, the fish are hiding, and come out again as soon as the water calms down.
The highlight of the North Atlantic aquarium tour is a 2.6 million liter tank, with a depth of nine meters and a surface of 300 square meters. Here a large shoal of mackerel passes the visitors' eye and different species of rays, triggerfish and breams.
Discover the fascination of the Northern oceans in the unique designed aquaria of the OZEANEUM.
